Flying dirndl dresses, queer folk dancers, folklore and patriotism, eros underneath the underskirt, political marching-ups, racket and god-fearing Trachtler (performer in a traditional costume), casual punks and cool hip-hoppers: Tracht (traditional costumes) is a serious, at times grotesque social game. The former dictate is becoming a means of distinction – not only in fashion. Tracht has been and still is culture, politics and a national myth. However, the handling of this political piece shows that this formerly sacred cow isn't sacred anymore. Or maybe it still is?!
